Fine Art Portraiture

Fine art is where I work without a brief. There's no LinkedIn crop to fit and no firm standard to match — just light, color, styling and a story told in one frame.

Planned like a painting

These are staged portraits, and each one starts long before the camera comes out: first the light and the set, then the wardrobe, then the person. A woman in period dress working with clay bowls by lamplight. A potter at her wheel in a rustic workshop. A girl in a lilac gown walking toward a stone tower in morning mist. Most are made in camera; a few are finished as digital compositions.

Why it's on a headshot photographer's site

I came to photography from graphic design, and this work is where that shows most. The things that make a fine art portrait work are the same things that make a good headshot work — where the light falls, what the background is doing, how a face holds an expression. Fine art is how I keep that eye sharp.

Shown, not sold

This work is here as a portfolio. It is not for sale as prints. If you came for a session, see headshots, portraits and personal branding.
